He-111 dropping remote control bomb, the worlds's first smart bomb. The Henschel Hs 293 was a World War II German anti-shipping guided missile: a radio-controlled glide bomb with a rocket engine slung underneath it.
The first flight test of an Hs.293 missile was on December, 16 1940, and was a failure as the left and right control circuits were inadvertently reversed in the assembly. The second flight on 18th December was a complete success, with further tests showing promise, although some inadequacies in the Siemens control system were able to be corrected.
