First Division is on the point of taking the sea for Normandy. The badge of "Big Red One" is reproduced on almost all the helmets and often with the left shoulder. All these men carry the battle dress with trousers of wool and wind-breaker M1941 combat or wind-breaker of tank crew member.

Behind these men the cranes are visible on pontoons which will be used for the genius to discharge provisioning on the beaches as of the end of the attack. On right-hand side a black soldier  which probably belongs to the 320th Barrage Balloon Battalion or the one of the elements of support of the 5e brigade amphibian of the genius. The soldier sitting in the foreground, whose bottom of the trousers is turned up, sat on a waistcoat of attack of green fabric. The majority of the laced boots are blackened by grease anti-vesicants. Preparations for Operation Overlord.
